A Message From Our President

Timothy Loew

The Worcester Public Library represents the best of our community. Free and open to all, WPL supports the city’s nearly 200,000 residents by connecting us with books, educational programs, learning resources, and many more services that enrich our lives.

WPL’s two mobile libraries regularly make stops at schools, the senior center and retirement communities enabling residents with transportation or mobility challenges to conveniently access library services. Within its seven locations, residents of every age and walk of life can visit and find the information and programming that they need. The Main Library, which just underwent a major renovation, is the centerpiece of the system, offering hundreds of programs per year and providing meeting space for dozens of community groups and organizations.

Given the importance of the library to our community, I am honored to serve as Trustee and the President of the Worcester Public Library Foundation. The WPLF was established in 2003 by a group of committed citizens who recognized the need for both public and private support to sustain and improve the resources and services within the Worcester Public Library; a mission as valid today as it was then. The Board of Trustees and Corporators along with the many people, corporations, and local foundations which support WPLF are dedicated to the library’s vision of being a welcoming destination and a leading provider of resources to inform, enlighten and enrich our diverse community.

The Foundation has successfully concluded a $4.1 million campaign entitled Writing the Next Chapter, which helped fund the $12.7 million renovation of WPL’s Main Branch. Throughout the process, all of us on the Board of Trustees have been inspired by the gifts, big and small, and the people who have demonstrated their support for our community through their generosity.

We would like to invite your support of the library, with the understanding that it is a valuable resource for our city, and that as citizens we have a responsibility to do what we can to improve our community. If you have an interest in learning how you can get involved and support the WPLF, please contact me by emailing: president@wplfoundation.org.

Best regards,
